Mission Statement
Make aviation education convenient and efficient for every pilot in Canada.
Innovation and technology are always changing the aviation industry. Hangaaar aims to be a part of that innovation. With an aim to make the absolute best aviation education for pilots, you can be confident that all online tutorials are endorsed by various Class 1 Flight Instructors and Transport Canada Pilot Examiners across the country.
Getting Your Letter of Recommendation
In order to write the Private Pilot exam (or Commercial Pilot exam) with Transport Canada, a student pilot requires a letter of recommendation stating that, in short, the student pilot has met the requirements as set by Transport Canada and that the signed Flight Instructor (or Flight Training Unit) feels that the student pilot has acquired the sufficient knowledge.
Hangaaar's online ground school Private Pilot Ground School (PPL) course (as well as our Commercial Pilot Ground School CPL) complies with the Transport Canada requirements. Once you complete the course you can email or call Hangaaar in order to obtain your letter of recommendation. (1.84.HANGAAAR - toll free 1.844.264.2227 or email info@hangaaar.com)
Once you finish the Hangaaar course, getting your letter is pretty simple:
1. Send us your student pilot permit number (It typically starts with 5802) and typically it's found on your Student Pilot Permit or on your PTR - Pilot Training Record. This will help identify you at TC so there is no confusion when you show up to write your exam.
2. Send a copy (or photo) of the last and most current page of your PTR booklet. It may be kept at your flight school as they keep track of it for you. The last page of your PTR should be dated and signed by your flight instructor.
3. Confirm that it is the full Private Pilot (PPAER) exam you wish to write (as opposed to just the Recreational Permit).
4. Confirm that you have received your medical certificate from Transport Canada. You will need this in your possession in order to write your exam.
When you send in #1 - #4 above we will do a review of your participation in the Hangaaar course to make sure you've watched every video and taken every quiz as detailed in the course. We will then issue you a letter of recommendation and it will be good for 60 days.
Typically, once you send in the info from #1 - #4 it will take about 24-48 hours to get your letter of recommendation issued.

Hangaaar's Online Ground School for Pilots in Canada
Hangaaar has provided Online Ground School services to the St. Catharines Flying Club since 2013, and since that time, many student pilots have used Hangaaar's software platform to help them review and prepare for their Transport Canada exams.
As an associate of the Flight Training Unit at the St. Catharines Flying Club, Hangaaar is pleased to provide every pilot at the St. Catharines Flying Club with its Online Ground School platform, and additionally, to offer all Hangaaar aviation courses to pilots across Canada, particularly to communities where aviation courses are not routinely offered due to small class sizes, resulting in pilots needing to commute long distances for their aviation education, or worse, to lose interest in aviation due to a lack of educational resources available.
Information for Flight Training Units across Canada
If you are a Flight Instructor or a Flight Training Unit and are unable to provide your student pilots with accessible ground school training due to the limited class sizes, we would like to invite you to have your students sign up and learn with Hangaaar.
In particular, with Hangaaar's convenient, efficient and professional Online Ground School platform and variety of full aviation courses offered, pilots may sign up for various courses and participate at their convenience, keeping pilots in your community on track and moving towards obtaining their aviation goals.

As a Student Pilot, check with your Flight Instructor or local Flying Club, or have your Flight Instructor check out this website or contact Hangaaar directly if they have any questions about utilizing Hangaaar's documentation as a method for tracking your ground school participation.
Required Ground School for Private Pilots in Canada
In order to become a Private Pilot in Canada, there are requirements that have been established by Transport Canada. One of the requirements is that a student pilot must take a Private Pilot Ground School course where they will acquire the practical knowledge and become proficient with Canada's aviation regulations that are set as minimum requirements in order to operate aircraft.
The curriculum for the Private Pilot Ground School course has been established by Transport Canada, and all Flight Training Units across Canada teach the topics and subjects as listed in the Study and Reference Guide. Although the subject matter is the same, the various Flight Training Units across Canada all vary slightly in how Ground School is taught based upon how each Flight Instructor articulates and instructs students in these topics.
Regardless of the Flight Training Unit's procedure in how they teach ground school, the goal is always the same: Instruct the student pilot in a way that conveys the vast amount of knowledge required in a way that helps the student not just memorize the answers, but to actually learn the material, thereby becoming safer and more effective pilots.
At many Flight Training Units across Canada, you will typically see Class 4 Flight Instructors doing the classroom instruction. It's a very rare thing to locate a Flight Training Unit that has their aviation courses taught by the more experienced Class 1 Flight Instructors. The reason for this is because Class 1 Flight Instructors have much more training and experience, therefore, most are often busy flying or completing other aviation tasks. At Hangaaar, the Private Pilot course is taught by a Class 1 Flight Instructor with about 25,000+ hours of experience! You'll notice the difference when you get to learn from a Flight Instructor who has that much training and flight time!
With your letter of recommendation from Hangaaar you will be able to write your Transport Canada exam anywhere across Canada.
"I wanted to extend a big thank you to you! I found your app and online videos the best tool possible for my exam prep! I used all the videos, and numerous practice exams which in turn allowed me to pass my written exam first try! I've told all my instructors about Hangaaar and hopefully they'll share the success I've had with other students. Thanks again!" - Brandon Stewart
